When people think of Texas, most will never think of swimming holes. However, Texas has some of the best old-fashioned swimming holes you have ever seen! If you are looking for a place to jump back in down and cool off during those hot summer months, these three swimming holes should not be missed this summer! If you are ready to get your favorite bathing suit, some sunscreen, and a picnic lunch, let’s head out!

One of the best places in west Texas to cool off during those extreme days of summer is at Balmorhea State Park. Ths beautiful park has the honor of having the largest natural spring-fed pools in the world. If that is not enough, you will also have the opportunity to scuba dive, seek out rare fish, and enjoy wide open spaces. One day here is never enough during the summer and you will more than likely visit this park several times during the year!

There is no denying that a week at the Bahamas is going to be more refreshing than just about any other place in the world. However, we all don’t have the ability to take a week and travel to the islands. Yet, few are aware that we actually have the next best thing here in Texas. Son’s Island is a tropical paradise filled with lush greenery, white sandy beaches, and near perfect water. This is the place to go when you are looking to get away from it all and work on that perfect tan. A weekend here will make you forget that you are actually in Texas!

There are many people who head to swimming holes for reasons other than swimming. We are of course talking about some of the best fishing in the state. You can actually find that at Canyon Lake, where the water depth reaches 43 feet in some areas. This actually makes it one of the deepest lakes in the state and perfect for finding that one perfect fish that great stories are made of. In addition, it offers some truly unique and breathtaking sunsets. So even if you don’t go home with the big one, be sure to wait for the sun to go down.

As you can see, there is more to Texas than meets the eye. If you are sick of the hot summer heat, it is time to head to one of these beautiful swimming holes!
